Seems expensive to me. I'd want i5 and a dedicated graphics card for that money.

Seems crazy actually...what make/model is it even?

To be perfectly honest, the integrated HD 3000 will actually do just fine for photo/video editing. What you're gonna be wanting is screen real estate, which the laptop you posted has. You'll be able to fit more onto your screen as compared to the one with the GT 525m.

Now this is if you're gonna be doing all that editing exclusively using the laptop's screen. If you're gonna hook it up to a monitor or something, then yeah, go for the one with the 525M. Otherwise, I'd say go for that :3

Always had Vaio's in the past.

Is there any better brands or ones to avoid?
Also, where should I buy it?

My personal preference would be Asus, Toshiba, Sony, Lenovo.

The best place to get a laptop from would be Amazon based again on my dealings with them. They have no quibble returns policy which means if something goes wrong with a lappy they'd offer you a refund or replacement.

Having fixed with a lot of laptops for friends, the vaio left a particularly bitter taste for two reasons - one it's priced as a premium product but its build quality just isn't and secondly - sony pack it with their own bull**** software running in the background. Fair enough you can wipe and reinstall just windows, but by default they have a process running just to detect if the battery is sony and not third party. People got by that so they included it with the BIOS meaning you have to flash the BIOS to replace the battery with a non-Sony one, risking leaving yourself with an expensive paper weight. Apple are notorious for stuff like this, but not even they would go that far.

Stupid question but OP does it have to be a laptop? If bang for your buck is what you're looking for you'd get soo much more with a desktop.

If not, I concur, steer clear of Vaio. If you're gonna be editing stuff(I wonder to what level considering you dont know what you need) then maybe look at 17"s with as high a res as you can manage in your price bracket. Dedi graphics really isnt needed, you wont be using CUDA on a mobile GPU so the biggest thing is to get an i5/i7.
