I have a self-built PC with four hard drives in it, one of them is for the operating system and the other ones are 2Tb used for videos, music etc.

I use good sync to back up my music, pictures etc to another disk, but of late it has taken ages and come back with random files/folders with the above error. A check disk fixes them, until it happens again.

I have tried formatting , rewiring , copying the partition from one drive to it etc and am at a loss what is wrong .Is it simply the drive is on its last legs and needs to be replaced

    Thanks for any help

Run a diagnostic scan with vivard (available on the UBCD) on each of the hard disks to find the faulty one, sounds like one is badly failing

Thanks Nick , I had an idea and I built the pc myself so was easy enough to disconnect and reconnect a drive to boot up an find the problem one.

Seagate now own Samsungs HDD dept, and Samsungs are actually a very decent drive. You can guarantee worldwide there will be millions of Western digital, Seagate, hitachi, Samsung, Toshiba hard drives that have failed. This is par for the course with them, and not really an accurate way of avoiding problems. I would reccomend avoiding Toshiba, Fujitsu, Maxtor, Hitachi drives, however I have also had to replace failed WD, Samsung, Seagate etc drives aswell over the years

Thats just it, people all have different expierience with hdds. I have 5 Sammys in my desktop, one failed (got a bad sector) and there was no cathestrphic loss which was nice. Still I've used Samsung, Seagate and WD drives in most builds I do for people and not had to replace a drive yet (and I've built a fair few machines now :) )

You should never trust just one hdd for data backup, have the data span multiple drives, google drive/dropbox etc. You will very likely have zero issues with the hitachi, and I think in recent times they have improved drastically.
