    Sorry if this is stupid question. Will putting castrol magnatec 10W40 part synthetic into 05 VW polo cause any harm to engine? I put this into wife's car. Think i should have put in semi synthetic. Not well up on this at all.

    What engine is it?
    Semi-synthetic and part synthetic are the same thing. If it needed fully synthetic you won't do any immediate harm but you probably should get it changed to the right stuff.

    You need to get oil that meets VW's specs, not all 5w30 semi/fully synthetic do.

    Its 1.2 petrol. Didn't realize part and semi were the same thing. Thanks for help.

    It will be in the manual but I think you need VW 504/507 spec oil for these. If that's the case it will probably be fully synthetic you need.

    if this oil meets 502.00/505.00 spec, then you can use it, be careful and always use VW spec to VAG group cars.
