Hi everyone, i have just returned to work after maternity leave. During maternity leave i was paying the same amount of PRSI, PAYE and USC as i was when i was working. Should i be eligible for a tax refund because of this?I got a letter from work yesterday saying that i was due tax relief on €2000 and that my p60 should be adjusted to reflect this and that i should post the letter and p60 off to revenue. Does this mean i will get a refund of €2000 or just a percentage of this? I am totally clueless about all of this so any help would be greatly appreciated especially if it was explained in as simplest terms as possible....:):)

After a disappointing night , its hard to think straight .

But you say you have just returned from ML and you talk about P60 .

So you must have started ML around 1st December 2011.

Maternity Leave is non-taxable , so if you had deductions as you stated above , you will be entitled to some refund .

In December 2011 , if your earnings disregarding ML are less than your tax credits , you will possibly receive a refund .

For 2011 , you need to apply for a P21 balancing statement , and also a possible refund of PRSI and USC .

If your tax credits for 2012 are cumulative and you have now returned to work , you may have a period of tax free wages , if your earnings for Dec 2012 disregarding materity leave are less than your tax credits , - otherwise , you may have to wait until Jan 2013 to apply for refunds .

Note that P60's cannot be adjusted , but a P21 will review it for you .
