Hi thinking of buying a bike, a entry level road bike want to spend between 700 and 800 euro. so what extras can i try to get trown into the deal? ie a lock, lights, bottle holder, or can i expect to just get the bike and a free service and a smiling wave out the door.

Maybe a bottle holder, free service after a month, all the rest you have to dig deep.

Got Eur150 off the list price of mine so could choose what extra's I wanted to buy myself instead of taking the cheap stuff that they would throw in.

I think a free first service comes as standard with every new bike. Most will need to be serviced after the first couple of hundred KM because of cable stretch and bedding in. Good bike shops will also check your wheels for true with this service and every subsequent service.

Negotiate the discount off the bike.

Any freebies they throw in are paid for out of discount you didn't get.

Decent helmets and locks cost decent money.

I didn't get any discount off my bike, but got saddle bag, spare tube, bottle holder, drink bottle and frame pump thrown in. As i would have had to pay for those things anyway i was happy enough.

The shop i went to said they prefer to do it this way as they have had people come back in after talking to other people who bought the exact same bike but given different discounts, demanding the extra discount. Don't know if it's true or not but i wouldn't have the cheek to try that!
