Most traded guitar on adverts ??

I traded an Ibanez as103 a couple of years ago on adverts that I picked up on ebay. Lovely jazzy/mellow semi-hollowbody guitar, but just wasn't the sound I was after.

The guitar itself was in impecable order, even thou 6 years old it could have passed for new. thou not what I was looking for, at the time I knew it was a lovely guitar, and I was sure it would have found a good home fast....maybe it has.....

But the truth is I've seen it come up possibly another 3 times on adverts since I let it go from 3 different sellers. And I've noticed other items, especially guitars doing the rounds over the last couple of years.

So simple question out of curiosity....

What item/guitar/instrument do you know of has been doing the rounds the most over the years?

I'm on about a specific item, not a style of guitar.I've only been on adverts a few years but I know some of you other boys have been on there for a lot longer than me

    Cheers

There's a black G&L ASAT Semi-hollowbody that has been floating around for a number of years. The funny thing about it is that the price steadily went down over its first year or two on Adverts, only for someone to come back with a much higher price that was clearly a lot higher than what they had paid.

More interesting than the items that constantly reappear, to me at least, are the users that reappear. Without naming names here, I'll talk about a couple.

One posts two guitars every couple of weeks, usually with distinctive photos. I'm almost convinced that he posts under two different user names because the photos from both users often look very similar in terms of quality and the user punctuates his replies in a very distinctive way. Both also live very close to one another. I find myself doubting that the guitars he sells really come from his collection - he probably buys them online and sells them at a profit here.

Another posts in almost every 'desirable' ad - Fender, Gibson, Marshall, etc. - offering the same guitar. This has happened countless times over the years though so it's not really a very profound observation.

Finally, you have the same characters that feature in almost every ad. They mainly trade things - usually the item is passed from one to another in a long list of trades. The surprising thing is that some of the gear comes into their hands and within two days they're selling it. And I'm not talking about people who take part exchanges and sell on what they don't need.

This all appear to be a symptom of our consumer culture. Nobody is satisfied with what they have, ever.

I've sold a hell of a lot of gear on adverts over the past couple of years, and one thing I've noticed is the absolute chancers with heap of sh*te Ibanez and Squiers offering their guitars on Fenders and Gibsons etc, because they've placed their ads at extortionate prices. They seem to comment on every single ad that goes up as well, after a while you start to recognise the name and just avoid.

I've done what Ravelleman speaks of, getting a guitar and selling a week or so later. For me it's because I can't afford to keep more than two guitars and two amps (broke student). So if I trade a guitar or buy it, and it plays well and sounds decent on it's own that's grand. But a lot of the time I've then taken the guitar into a practice or run it through my own rig and I find out it's just not what I was after or just doesn't suit me.

I've had my present gear for almost a year now, fairly happy with it, still always looking to try something new though.

In regards to most traded/sold guitar, I got a silver Squier Jagmaster a while back off a lad in Galway. He had gotten it from a trade who got it from a trade. I've since seen the same guitar from 2 or 3 different sellers again.

I modded a Gretsch Electromatic Silver GT with a bigsby, sperzel locking tuners and US Filtertron pups and in a fit of foolishness sold it on Adverts. The guy I sold it to traded it, the next guy then added a hard case and sold it for way more than I sold it for. Since then I have seen it at least once more, this time at a lower pricetag and were I still living in the country I would have bought it back. Savage guitar for rock. Missing it even talking abut it :(
