just wondering if you need to actually pass maths to get into arts or can you fail it and still make it onto the course seeing as it is not required subject for course entry? thanks :)

    From the site:

"Applicants under 23 must meet the matriculation (registration) requirements of the National University of Ireland (NUI) as follows: Leaving Certificate or equivalent with a minimum of two recognised subjects at Higher Level Grade C3 and four at Ordinary or Higher Level Grade D3. In addition, the Leaving Certificate subjects required to satisfy Faculty requirements are as shown in the table above.

These subjects may be presented at either Higher or Ordinary Level (additional requirements for individual courses/degrees are provided below).

One Grade E on a Higher Course at Leaving Certificate will be accepted if the candidate has amongst his/her other subjects three Grade C3 awards on Higher Course Papers, or at least one Grade B3 and one Grade C3 on Higher Course Papers at Leaving Certificate.

The subject Mathematics (Leaving Certificate - Foundation Level) will be accepted for matriculation purposes, but not as a substitute for the subject ‘Mathematics’ in faculties or courses for which the subject ‘Mathematics’ is currently an entry requirement. Entry points will not be awarded for this subject."

My friend failed Maths in the leaving and she got offered arts in maynooth a couple years back so I don't think its a requirement to pass it!

You should study. Push yourself with maths, I did notice an improvement in my ability to think laterally after it. You do need a good ability with the subject, irrelevant of the requirements of the course, to do well in your degree. I'm pretty certain of that.

Maths is the most fundamental thing you can learn. If you get better at maths, you'll get better at absolutely everything else in life. Fact.

I really would try and pass maths if at all possible. I wasn't great at maths, so what I did was just practice the questions over and over; eventually you kinda get the hang of them. Even if you can just do the part As and some of the Bs you will still pass it. You could always do foundation level either, assuming you're not already.
