I am going to travel to Waterford, and I have a car, but I do not know what the best way and how much distance by car, I hope those who have information that guides me from Galway to Waterford.

Do you have a sat nav?

You can use this tool to find route, distance and cost.

I went a few weeks back, via Limerick and Clonmel.

I would have thought Limerick > Tipp > Cahir > Waterford.

Sometimes it's shocking the powerful tools people don't know about. Google maps does directions. Here you go:

Depends what you're looking for. I'm from Galway and attend WIT.
If it's shortest time you want, then Motorway to Limerick, under the tunnel, and then take the turnoff for Waterford, via Tipp, Clonmel etc.

If it's cheapest route, then Loughrea - Portumna - Birr - Roscrea - Templemore - Templetuohy - Backroads to Kilkenny, and then motorway to Waterford. But you'll go on some ****e roads down through Bord na Mona country. But it's a grand drive too.

Ironically, Waterford and Galway are only divided by one county...Tipp.

To answer your question, I'd go via Limerick, as suggested above.

Went down for a long weekend the other week.

Limerick - Tipp - Clonmel is fast, and easy driving. Motorway to Limerick makes it the pragmatic-trip option.

We came back via a weird and wonderful route involving skirting Kilkenny and M-anything, and going thru Birr, Portumna, Loughrea. More interesting scenery, but hard work for the driver.

I go to Waterford every now and then with work and would normally go via Limerick.

One time though I had to go at very short notice, leaving Galway at around midnight in very heavy wind and rain. I thought it might be safer to stick to motorways, so I went towards Dublin and cut across to the M9 via Naas. Something like this.

I thought it would take a lot longer, but I think the difference was only about 10 minutes in the end! Petrol and tolls are the big disadvantage of course. :(

Hi. What about Galway-Tullamore-Kilkenny-Waterford? There are more motorway kms

    Best roads =

m9 to kilkenny dual carrageway turnoff (you avoid kilkenny completely)
from there to portlaoise through mountmellick all dual carrageways to the m6 tullamore exit
m6 all the way to galway

Prefer keeping to safer more relaxing roads so would have used the motorway to Dublin then onto waterford. All motorway but a couple of tolls along the route make it expensive.

Wouldn't find the Limerick Clonmel route great roads or stress free driving, unless its improved. Clonmel to Waterford wouldn't be the best at least.

Jaysus, Driving Galway to Dublin, and then down to Waterford? That's crazy distance, you're adding hours on to your journey that way. The Limerick - Clonmel Waterford road is grand. It's fine really, if you want a bad road, then Portumna - Roscrea - Templetuohy - Kilkenny is bad roads.
It's fairly subjective sure, but even the Clonmel to Wateford stretch is fine driving, by Irish standards definitely. It's no motorway but you can tip away at sixty for most of it.
