Im trying to write a cover letter for a job I saw advertised.

The add says to send it by email to the person's first name for example, Joe.

The email is set up as the business's name. So after googling I find out its Joe Bloggs.

How do I address the letter? In school, it was always Dear Mr Bloggs. Or do I send it as Dear Joe, as thats what the ad asked.

Really im clueless. It's been so long.

I think that Dear Mr. Bloggs is fine. Show a bit of initiative finding out their name and a little about the company.

I'd say "Dear Joe Bloggs" - shows your initiative, and keeps the informal tone that they've established.

Also, it's not a good idea to assume gender from first-name. Eg there's a singing teacher in Galway called Michel - she's excellent.
