Cycle insurance

For a while now I've been pondering getting insurance on my bikes. I know there is no legal requirement but I cycle in excess of 5,000 miles in an average year and there is always the possibility of something going wrong.

Specifically, I'm interested in insuring myself against possible injury (cover medical costs etc if required) and also third party insurance.

Looking around online, cycle insurance always seems geared towards theft. I'm not really interested as I cycle in areas where about the only other living thing I see are sheep and sheep don't generally steal bikes. Also, I collect old bikes, buy, repair and sell old bikes and usually have a lot of bikes in my possession at any one time, and try to ride them all at least occasionally. If I list all 14 of my current bikes on the online policy calculator, it ends up costing more than my car insurance! If I were to only list one bike for the purposes of theft cover but had an accident on a different bike, would I still be insured against injury and third party damages?

Does anyone on here have this cover?

In the case of personal accident cover, and physiotherapy expenses up to €250....would this have covered me for physio appointments after I damaged a tendon in my knee from overuse during a training spin?

I did look at cycling Ireland but they seem to be geared towards racing cyclists training and riding to events. I fall under the category of touring cyclist and don't compete in any shape or form.

What is an "Approved Cycling Ireland Event"?
An Approved Cycling Ireland Event, is any event published on the Cycling Ireland Yearbook or online Calendar. Additional Events may be added during the year subject to the approval of the Cycling Ireland Board.

Plenty of sportives published on Cycling Irelands site, many of us would be training for one of them.

I won't be training for any sportives, cycling Ireland approved or otherwise.

I'm looking to get my bike insured against theft. I know this can be added to home contents but am having difficulty. I live in a house-share, some policies won't cover bikes away from the home if renting, others that will cover have a minimum excess of €350, which hardly seems worthwhile on a 4 year old bike with a €175 premium.

Anybody in a similar situation recommend a company or broker?
