I'm going to have my first ever driving lesson today and will be driving a manual transmission car. Nervous and excited at the same time. Has anyone ever had their first lesson with a manual transmission car? Would love to know your stories, opinions etc.

I'd imagine that almost everyone has their first lesson in a manual?! Unless they're only able to drive an automatic due to disabilities etc.

If you haven't driven before, it may take a while before the gear changes etc start to come naturally to you. But it'll happen with practice. :) Good luck with the lessons!

I learnt gears in a tractor with a crash box, still can't change the damn things.

In a car it's grand, just listen to your instructor.

I remember my first lesson in manual (well actually my first lesson driving at all), it was great, even though in first lesson I only got to release clutch slowly and move few metres, I felt like "ME GUSTA" meme (literally). It was great, I was doing lesson every wednesday, so during lesson I was hoping the time goes slower, and when it ended I wanted next wed asap, now I finished all 12 lessons and got own car and I just think: "wow, from first day I started it felt like it's gonna take ages and is very very hard to even move off, and now just: meh" still enjoy and will enjoy driving :)

I first drove an automatic car at around 12/13 - purely because that's what was home. Got such a thrill reversing it around the corner at the house - but that was about it :P

When I got my learner permit, The automatic was the first car I drove on the road just to give me a bit of confidence. This was before getting any lessons.

But don't worry about it. Most people start in a manual car - and it's fine - follow the instructor's guidelines!

OP the vast majority of people start off in a manual.

There's nothing to worry about, and I wouldn't even worry about any advice people have given you. Just relax and enjoy the lesson. Your instructor is more than qualified to tell you everything you'll need to know

    Best of luck.

    :)

I had to cancel my driving lesson this afternoon because of the unfavourable weather conditions, shame as I was looking forward to it! Thanks very much to everyone who had responded to this thread, much appreciated! You all have given me a bit of confidence I can tell you that :)

Just a few lessons and soon you'll rather push a manual car than drive a Prundle
