Basically looking for a relatively cheap(ish) netbook for a 12 year old who is constantly hogging the house computer cos he's playing games on line.

He wants access to Youtube, itunes etc.
    No requirement for Windows

    Any suggestions?

What games are we talking about? Most game require a decent enough computer to run them on so some cheap might not work.

My brother has a HP Pavilion dm1 and it's surprisingly managed to run a few new-ish games on low. Just Cause 2 is pretty well optimized...

He got it for €380 in a Christmas sale at PC world, they have it at like €480 now I think.

Minecraft is his latest online craze.

It plays Minecraft, but you'd have to have some fog on. It's a processor-intensive game, the dm1 is just a 1.65ghz.

You should get him something really old and that barely works for a cheap price(: something like this

It'll keep him away from the games and he'll want to fix it (with due encouragement) and probably (as happens with most kids who tinker with technology) will turn into a computer genius by the age of 18.

    Just a suggestion...
