    Qaraaba 5/2 NAP

Very surprised 5/2 is available about Seamus Durack's very progressive 5 year old who was denied his hat trick LTO but I'm very confident he can resume winning ways in fine style tomorrow. After a good 3 year old season and an ok 4 year old season, Qaraaba has really taken off now a 5 year old winning his first two starts before finding only a progressive rival too good for him LTO. He started the year winning over a mile at Kempton off a mark of 76 before scooting home impressively over tomorrow's C+D impressively in a Class 4 handicap off a mark of 81. The form of that race looks very solid with the 2nd putting in some very consistent if not spectacular efforts off a 2lb higher mark whilst the 3rd has won and finished runner up from two of his last 3 starts. On his last start, Qaraaba was raised 7lb to a mark of 88 and was upped to a Class 3 event as he ran out what has turned out to be an excellent 1.75L beaten 2nd in the 20 runner field. The winner Danadana has since scored off a 9lb higher mark in a higher class event so its clear he just ran into an even more progressive rival that day. The 6th has also franked that form with an excellent 0.5L beaten 3rd in a higher Class subsequently which adds substance to this effort. He's been raised 4lb to a career high mark of 92 but given he may have bumped into a Pattern Class filly on his last start I certainly don't think this will be beyond him. Remaining in a Class 3, Seamus Durack's C+D winner is clearly still progressing and I'll be very surprised if anything is good enough to beat him tomorrow, especially as the trainer is 2-2 this month.

    I am extremely confident

Why? Good ground at present and I don't think there is any forecast rain.

Keep an eye out for Saddlers Rock tomorrow in the 7.35 Leopardstown. He's definitely going to improve a hell of a lot for the run tomorrow and although he looks a massive price at 2/1 I think he's clearly only out for a spin before the Ascot Gold Cup in two weeks. It'll be only a watching brief for me tomorrow but mark my words: he is going to destroy Fame & Glory in two weeks time.

Oh really? I just assumed it was pissing everywhere! It hasn't stopped here all day and I thought all of England was getting it as well, Sandown going went to heavy this evening but I guess up that way they didn't get any. Good stuff!

If the weather keeps up like this then leopardstown will be like a bog in the evening, even with it being a good drainage track it will be a slogfest and be very wary of the form from it.

Exactly, hence why I'm only watching tomorrow. If Saddler's Rock gets beaten 20L tomorrow I'll still fancy him for the Gold Cup.

    7.45 Doncaster

    Chiswick Bey 25/1 NB

Despite having to put two 'disappointing' efforts behind him, 25/1 looks an absolutely massive price about Richard Fahey's 4 year old and I think the return to good ground and the step up to a mile will definitely suit him tomorrow. Chiswick Bey is pretty unexposed with only 11 starts to date and Richard Fahey's gelding looked a rather progressive animal at the end of last year. Winning on debut at the track, Chiswick Bey contested the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in his 2 year old career and although outclassed, it shows connections like him. On his 4th start Chiswick Bey made his handicap debut off a mark of 85 at Newcaslte as he ran out an impressive winner of the small runner field. Subsequently, he was hardly disgraced off marks of 92 and 93 when finishing less than 7L behind the very talented Wooten Bassett before finishing midfield in the Listed 2 YO Trophy at Redcar which rounded off his 2YO campaign.

Last year Chiswick Bey was restricted to only 2 starts as a 3 year old so he either suffered an injury or else is difficult to get ready. On his reappearance, he looked as if he needed the run and on is 2nd start during the last campaign he ran a very good race to finish 1.25L behind stablemate Common Touch off a mark of 90, a horse I rate quite highly at good ground over 7f at York. The form of that race is strong with Common Touch winning off a 5lb higher mark on his next start with some authority and he has also been beaten by less than a length off a 12lb higher mark. The time of this race was also good and in Richard Fahey's interview after this race I think its very telling that he said Chiswick Bey would be upped to a mile (tomorrow's trip) and it should bring some improvement about him. 2 starts back Chiswick Bey's made his reappearance on the back of an 11 month absence where he was disappointing but I'm putting that down as him needing the run. LTO he faced a Class 3 7f event at Newcastle and I really think you have to ignore that run as it was heavy, heavy ground and I don't think you can read much into that form at all. Resultantly, he's now down to a mark of 87 and I think he looks very well handicapped, being only 2lb above his very impressive last win and 3lb below his excellent effort behind a progressive rival in a Class 2 event. Although he looks 2nd string on jockey booking, I am not concerned in the slightest as on numerous occasions for Fahey the apparent outsider has won. Tony Hamilton takes the ride and he's a jockey I have absolutely no problems with whatsoever. With a good draw in stall 9, I am confident of a big showing from Chiswick Bey and hopefully he can land this open affair at a lovely price.

Really like the look of this horse backed him last time against Dandana. Only got 6/4 which is probably a bit short but like you i am very confident.

Whats the ground gonna be like in Doncaster?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭rossom

Not liking all the rain up at Donny!

    8.05 Leopardstown

    Little Arrows 9/1

Very confident of a very big run for Ken Condon's 6 year old who is extremely well handicapped being a full stone below his last winning mark and I thought he shaped very well LTO. A winner at the course last year on soft to heavy ground, Little Arrows looked very much like he was going the right direct and Ross Coakley takes the ride again tonight. Ken Condon is in blistering form at the moment with 3 winners from his past 10 runners and I'm very confident he can keep that excellent record going tonight.

I've had to go in again at 66s. Although I'm not chuffed about the rain arriving, he has won on good to soft impressively and won on debut on soft (although I think that was probably more talent than acting on the ground)

25/1 to place with 365. I'll be having a crack at that.

Obviously personal opinion. Firslty, he absolutely dismantled Opinion Poll on his last start as a 3 year old when stepped up to 2m2f in the Doncaster Cup to score by 4L. That day he seemed like the step up to 2m4f would be ideal and as a 3 year old to beat a horse with such credentials in the manner that he did was an extremely impressive effort (obviously received weight allowances). Opinion Poll finished 1.25L behind Fame & Glory on his next start a month later (although F&G probably could have won by more) so a direct correlation between that form line is one thing. On Saddlers Rock 3nd last start he was a very unlucky 3rd behind Fictional Account and F&G after being chopped off on the fence and although there is definitely a case F&G was below his best Saddlers Rock definitely would have beaten him that day. Saddlers Rock has had only 7 runs in his career to date and is on a huge upward curve. To do what he did to Opinion Poll as a 3 year old was very special and he'll definitely improve now a 4 year old. The fact he was outpaced over 2m2f briefly demonstrates he is an out and out stayed and he'll easily get the trip. Over 1m6f on heavy ground and clearly needing the run, it was a really pleasing introduction tonight. Saddlers Rock will be a far superior animal than what he was last year and I think you'll see how truly good a horse he is in two weeks time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

I backed him the day he beat Opinion Poll but the weight allowance was a big thing for me. Fame and Glory is a class above the rest in the stayers division I think so it'd be good if he does prove as good as him

Yeah clearly the weight allowance was a big thing but horses (generally) are far more physically developed as 4 year olds. I'll be the first to put up my hands if I'm wrong but I'm very bullish about Saddlers Rock

Of course, stayers tend to be slower to mature too. No need to apologise, I was being genuine in wondering why you were so bullish I wasn't trying to be an ass

I fancied this quite strongly too.
And it went off at 4/1, so we weren't the only ones.

With that in mind, the winner No Trimmings, looks one for the notebook.
To win against such a well handicapped horse who was definitely back in form was a serious effort.

Rule 4 perhaps but 100 quid seems loads. Enquire with them

While I would love to see Saddlers Rock give Sadlers Wells one last top class GP 1 winner, I doubt he'll take F&Gs scalp in the Ascot Gold Cup. F&G has the Gold Cup as his only real target this year, he'll be primed to the win this race and has the gears to cruise the race, class will see him home.

Colour vision will win the ascot gold cup I think he looked a big improver on seasonal debut even tho he was very gd last year.

Wouldn't be encouraged by the ground at Ascot. If the ground was better I'd be on, as it is now though Opinion Poll and Saddlers Rock are more interesting. Opinion Poll would be a great proposition if he was ridden more prominently.

With the way things are going the ground is going to be pretty desperate. The forecast over the next few weeks isn't meant to get any better either. Could be a pretty ugly meeting.
