Jobbridge expanding to other jobs websites

Not sure if this has already been posted, but the more I use jobs sites the more I see jobbridge internships. I thought they were confined to only the Fas and Jobbridge websites . At this rate there will be no proper jobs left on any jobs website by the end of the year.

You just need to use each job website's "advanced search" feature to filter out the internships. Using the job website www.dole.ie as an example:
    1. Click the "advanced search" link at the top of the screen
    2. Select whichever job categories you are interested in. Obviously you do not want to select the "internship" category
    3. Put the phrase "internship jobbridge" in the "with none of these words" box

Your search results should then have little to no internship positions.

I know these extra steps are a pain in the arse, but you can bookmark the search results so you don't have to re-enter the search terms every time.

Yep, JobBridge is killing the job market even further.

Some positions can be beneficial but the large majority are just businesses getting free labour.

It is a case of right intentions, wrong idea.

I came across this thread as once again a position in my particular area of interest has arisen and I again find that it is only an "internship" on JobBridge. I don't find it particularly heartening to see that many opportunities are only available if you've been on Jobseekers for three months.

What are other people's thoughts on this?

If the internship is not on the Jobbridge website, then it is not an official Jobbridge position. I saw a couple of these last year, and queried them with the Helpdesk. I was told by them, they are not approved internships.

However, as the OP's discovered, it doesn't stop employers chancing their arm.

Jobbridge, is a great idea in principle, for getting people back to work, the only thing I have against it is that it is not available to people who, instead of being on jobseekers took up other employment, in maybe a different sector or in low paid employment.

Actually to come to think of it I saw a paid position advert last month for customer service agent for a travel agent. This month I was thinking of applying and discovered that they changed the spec to Internship. That is not right.

Secondly I read in the paper that a qualified accountant was made redundant from her company and discovered that they hired someone to take her place as an Internship....again totally wrong

Thirdly I had an interview for Internship with a company (will not specifiy) and at the same time was advised I have to work all hours 5 days a week and would not be allowed to take time off to do study time (I was enrolled in college studying) nor meet students to discuss assignments. They asked me when I would need time off to meet the students. I couldnt possibly know when since other students had commitments too. I felt disheartened whilst at the same time was willing to put alot of hours with less than average pay and my time over less hours of study and writing assignments.

    Very disheartening & totally wrong.

If a company getting free labour was happy to not allow the student time off to complete their course / study; I would seriously be evaluating my commitment t to work for free for them.

Free work will always be available.

Unless its in a really rare , complicated & difficult to break into sector ?

If you work for free you will never be out of work.
