Queen's Jubilee caused postal havoc

Last week, I ordered a very important item from a seller in England, the day before the Jubilee. I paid top money for 1-2 day delivery with UPD. The only problem is that I did not realize that courier companies like DPD would not be running over the Jubilee, but DPD still charged me for 1-2 day delivery knowing that they could not possibly deliver as specified.

The last know location of my order was a sorting hub in England, since then it has fallen off the face earth and it's tracking number no longer brings up any information. ( just a red warning that says the parcel does not exist)

After two calls to DPD, they cannot find heads or tails of my package, my tracking number also brings up nothing for them now and my patience has run out.

Has anyone else run into a problem like this over the Jubilee weekend?

What can I do to have this parcel found, I will not accept a refund, the parcel must be found, the item inside cannot be easily replaced.

I find DPD have a bad service at this end, my most recent dealings was where my (tracked) did not exist according to a conversation I was having with their helpline, while at the same time a DPD driver was delivering the packet to my door.

So what is happening to me now is not that odd? I must say their helpline is dreadful, I went to them in trouble and in need of help and the y were rude, unhelpful and sarcastic.

Delivery schedules are always quoted in working days, so with it being a 3 or 4 day weekend none of those days would be counted. If you ordered on Friday with a 2 day delivery, today would be the 2nd of those days.

That's not up to you, and if it's lost then it's lost. You can't make them deliver something that they don't have, regardless of how rare it is. It also has nothing to do with you anyway, as the delivery must be chased up by the sender, not the recipient. Your compensation comes from the sender, not the delivery agent.

Contact the people you bought from and tell them that it has gone missing and to either arrange a replacement or refund. That's all you can do.
