    Hi,

Looking to get a good Hybrid mostly for short commutes 6/7K max, getting to shops etc - fairly light if possible, not too attractive to thieves, and comfort and upright position are important .Fairly steep hills on the way back from work so would need to be ok for those

    Either new or second hand.

Is it possible to get something for this kind of money that will last ? Is it best to try Second hand - and if so, any good shops for second hand ? Any real options on the new bikes or do i need to spend a little more money?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    C

Any suggestions for a new bike ?

I was in a bike shop and was shown a Planet Newport for €300. Any opinions on this bike?

Can't go wrong with this Vitus from CRC. Decent quality derailers and shifters and no dodgy suspension fork.

Great thanks - looks good. If I do buy online, any recommendations for guys who assemble and fit bikes ?

    Thanks

I have a Raleigh Oakland I bought a year ago and have done over 8000 km on it. Very happy with it. Available from isport.ie for 269 euros.

Decent entry level bike, I've had one for 5 years, done thousands of kms of commuting and touring. Not sure how the spec compares, I paid €290. 3x7 Shimano Tourney, SR Suntour cranks, Tektro brakes, Bronx branded wheels.

I changed the tyres (to Marathon Plus), also the cartridge bearing on the headset started leaking grease over the forks after a couple of years, other than that it's been fine.
