Oil filter stuck

Doing an oil change last night on my 2002 Skoda Octavia.

Removed sump nut no problem, drained oil then went to take off oil filter and it won't budge, have tried everything from running a single edge razor around the parts of the rubber gasket i can reach, 2 custom oil filter removal tools, one which is a chain and wrench and the other which is a circle that you tighten and finally the screwdriver and lumphammer method.

No joy, by now the job is that much harder as it's lashing down outside and the filter is ripped to bits so getting a grip is that much more of an issue, Octavia oil filters are always a pain to remove but this is unreal bad. :pac:

Screwdriver is usually last resort and always works for me when the rest fails.
If filter is in shreds you probably will have to get someone with a lift to remove the last bits.

I had the same story on Passat'00. I was not able to finish it myself, so had to tow the car to the nearest workshop.

Yea it's unreal how tight it is/hard to access as the alternator/manifold and radiator all surround it so there is no leverage.

Already missed my NCT booking this morning because of it, have work tomorrow so this is not good :p

HOw long was it since last changed? No good to you now but I'd never attack a filter like that at home, I'd have just lashed in the fresh oil.

one trick i used to use was to wrapped the filter with course sand paper and use the filter wrench on top of that, used to get good grip with the sand paper!

This has happened me on two 1.4's before.

if you can get a screwdriver or chisel and put it onto the very metal edge of the filter and try and tap that around. Be very, very careful of the block.

What's going to happen is the screw that holds the filter is going to come off with the filter (it has threads on both ends. You may actually have to cut the filter down the middle and peel it off the threads.
