I received this tooth in stuff that I got when my grandfather passed away. I am not sure what it is. I would guess either elephant or mammoth molar. It weights nearly 7 pounds and measures 8.5 inches long by 6.5 inches tall by 2.75 inches wide.

I can't claim to be expert on this sort of thing myself so I wouldn't like to say, however if it is a mammoth tooth I am not sure it would be that white. I don't know of course but it looks to be too young for a mammoth tooth.

Also, I am not sure it actually looks like either a mammoth nor an elephant tooth from your picture.

As I say I am no expert and I am probably wrong all ways up. I would be interested on what a more learned person might think of it.

Has the look of some sort of elephant tooth alright. As R said mammoth teeth tend to be much darker, so maybe it's younger.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Looks like an elephant tooth to me. Mammoth ones are usually dark brown to the best of my knowledge.
