    .... What happens?

I sold my car 3 weeks ago, but can't find the replacement I want.

Renewal is in couple weeks, but I may not have another car by then.

So what happens when it comes to renewal date and I haven't changed car?

    Thanks :)

When you sold the car you should have paused the insurance, as it's just wasting time on your insurance policy.

In any case you don't have to renew it straight-away, your NCB is ok for 2 years.

Tell them you don't want to renew, and take out a new policy when you buy an new car. I presume you suspended cover when you sold your old car?

I didn't pause the insurance as I thought I'd be buying straight away.

But some dodgy sellers / timewasters since then is the reason I didn't buy (lucky I figured them out before buying ;) )

nothing happens, just tell them you don't want to renew, the policy ends, they send out your ncb cert. then when you buy a new car and go in search of a new policy. although you could/should, as suggested, pause the policy, reactivate it upon new purchase and then do your shopping around when the renewal offer comes - this would be the more cost effective option.
