What file formats are on the USB stick? The manual for that TV says the following movie file formats are supported....

USB playback of the following video file formats is available:
    • AVCHD (files with the extension “.mts” or “.m2ts”)
    • MP4 (AVC) (files with the extension “.mp4”)
    • MP4 (MPEG4) (files with the extension “.mp4”)
    • MPEG1 (files with the extension “.mpg”)
    • MPEG2 (files with the extension “.mpg”)
    • DivX (files with the extension “.divx” or “.avi”)

Just to quickly eliminate any potential issues with the USB drive, copy a photo (JPG) file on to it and see if you can view the photo on the TV.

Can you hook the TV up to your internet router and update the s/w?

One more thing, from the manual: USB viewer supports FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 and exFAT file systems.

Just noticed it might be possible to get a usb wireless LAN adapter to update software.

If the TV can format a USB drive - do that, then copy the stuff onto it and give it a go.

There should be no need to update the software.

Make sure you are using a flash drive and not hard drive and copy a music file directly to the root of the drive (not in a folder). Then select Menu > Media > Music and the files should be visible in there.
