Even though younger, Lagat has taken the quality over quantity approach as well.

    Didn't Eamonn Coghlan also break 4mins as a v40?

Yes. He did it indoors at age 41 18 years ago.

Do we know the time he ran for the indoor?

3:58:15 according to his book. He was 41 at the time.

As far as I know Eamon has clocked up more sub 4 min times for an over 40s than anyone else. I didn't know until I read the link that only the man in the link was the first to do it outdoors. I assumed Eamon had done it outdoors.

You are (partially) right. He is tied for the most sub 4's at 40 with Anthony Whiteman. They each have one!

    I think he's already over 40. There's no way he's 39!

Bernard Lagat will be 38 this year. I can't see him stopping any time soon. He will annihilate any V40 record he attempts.

Provided he doesn't get injured...., no names are coming to mind but I seem to remember others planning on doing the first V40 sub-4 but getting injured and not being able to get back to their previous level post injury. Marcus O'Sullivan perhaps?

yes but thats if he's bothered by v40 records , not too many people are. You would think that if Guerrouj , morceli would have been capable also. Its just not something that will draw people to extend a running carrer that much.

When Eammon broke it there was a bit of a race on at the time , think Scott and Walker. Remember hearing that Coghlan wanted to get it before David Moorcroft it 40 as he'd run it for sure.

I think they all had a go but injuries took there toll. Seems to be the problem with older athletes. The will is strong but the body is weak.
