Edit: Mandatory use of FB for login is a bit naff, should be able to choose.

Heard about this yesterday on Engadget..... Reminded me of tasker

Ye I was reading about this earlier. Apparently its getting loads of bad reviews on the market coz u can only log in with Facebook, and not your google account.

Also, you can't create "recipes" from your phone, you have to create them on your computer.

Still though, that video makes it look good, and I might give it a go. I'm sure someone on the forums will come up with some genius recipes to use!

Login with facebook is only during the beta phase. See lifehacker article in OP.

Mr E is right, just spotted this on their forum!

Many people have raised questions regarding the need for authentication.
    We hear you!
The reason we require authentication is to ensure privacy and make sure that only you can push code to your device.
In our first beta version, we’ve decided to use Facebook ID. We never post anything to Facebook, we just use it for authentication!
We plan to support additional authentication methods in the near future.
It would be great to get your input: which additional authentication method would you like to see?

They appear to be getting hammered for FB login almost as bad as Spotify when they did it!! :D

    Nice looking concept though!

Am I missing something, where is the recipe for the thing in the video of remembering where I parked my car when switching from driving to walking?

Can't see it in the recipe list.

I was also looking for it but failed to locate it. There is a thread on their forum with users also asking the same question.

In other news though, i managed to get the "Where?" recipe working and its pretty good.

You can open the code and manually adjust the wording of the command (im not a coder so doing this all by myself was an Achievement) so i set mine to reply with my location to a few people each time a message is received stating "Where are you?". And of course i took the opportunity to customize the reply while i was already messing with the code.

So far im quite pleased with On{x} but it does seem a little limited right now.
Im looking forward to seeing what else is cooked up once a few more APK's are made available.

I seen a great idea on their forums that I’m really hoping comes to life.
A recipe for the alarm clock on the phone that is dependent on the Wifi strength at the time of the alarm. Basically, On{x} would know what the signal strength is in your bedroom, compared to your living room, and would only disable the alarm once you actually got out of bed and moved to your living room.

    Some great potential

Seems pretty cool. Was wondering if there was any way to automatically start my music/endmondo etc...when i get on my bike/go running. If it works, it could be really handy.

It seems like the majority of the useful recipes require GPS, and since I leave my GPS off most of the time to save battery, the whole thing is kinda pointless...

Yes, i believe there is already a recipe for something like that. It uses the GPS to determine your speed etc and activates the music player when it determines you are driving/walking or whatever you set it too.

I have not tested it out yet though

GPS left on doesn't waste battery. It only uses the battery when an app requests the use of GPS. I have GPS left on permanently on my GS2.
I had just a 1% battery loss from 05:30 to 09:45 this morning when phone wasn't in use. GPS was on.
Leave your GPS on for a while and see how you get on.........................

I did not know this at all, and i must say i had never even thought to test it out.

    Many thanks for the info

The idea with On{x} is to monitor your actions and respond to them. Its not psychic, the only way it could work is to track location at all times/nearly all the time.

Also, my phone uses GPS and GLONASS, so there's even more tracking going on :P

There is one for when you start walking so id say it just needs to be modified to allow for running/cycling

    https://www.onx.ms/#!recipeEditPage?scriptId=launchAppOnMOT

You actually can edit that easily, just change walking to running :)

just installed this and will definitely be creating some custom rules.

the basic building blocks are there for some great rules, I'm thinking:

Turn on Music App when I am walking out of work and the time is after 4pm.
do something similar for walking to work in the morning as well.

I will have to test some of the rules to see how they actually work in real life.

From what I can see it differentiates between walking and driving based on GPS speed.
If your in traffic will it revert back to walking instead of driving?
My sat nav tries that sometimes :D
