    Hey all

I was just looking for advice on what you think I'd get for my current car and what I should go for next.

Current car is an 04 Peugeot 307 1.4l HDI with about 165,000m. Should be NCT'd until early 2014 by the time I sell it. I'd prefer to trade in with a dealer. What do you think I'd get either trade or private?

Also, for my next car I'd be looking at something fairly cheap to run (and tax). Price would depend on what I get for the Peugeot but looking around €7k-€9k total. I do a lot of miles (over 2,000 a month) too. Was thinking of an 07 Passat or Corolla. Maybe an Auris, though I'd prefer a saloon. Any suggestions welcome. Cheers

I would say around €3k at max, maybe more like €2500.

160k? Worthless to any Dealer, and worth about a grand to the trade.

Yeah I was thinking around €2.5 - €3k for private sale and less than €2k for trade in.

In terms of what to go for then, what about Skoda Superb or Octavia? Friend suggested it last night. Seem like a good job. Thoughts?

I cannot see anyone paying those prices to be honest. A dealer will give you less than trade price for it as they will not retail it with that mileage. The 307 doesn't have a great rep so I reckon around €1900 private.

speaking as an Octavia driver since '07 with 228K on the clock they are a really solid car and comfy to drive but everyone has their preference i guess (just don't tow anything with them)

Oh lord dont get an Auris... parents have one! Disgusting it is! The interior is plain, the way they have the gear stick up high is horrible... the over all performance of the car (1.4 petrol) is grant like toyota reliability is 100% like but just the design is not nice! Recently sold my old car and got an audi, while i was carless i was driving the auris and i just hated it... eventually got an audi... wow the difference. I never realised how tough and useless the powersteering was on the auris compared to the audi, just little things like that. But then again as i said its flawless under the hood! never a bit of bother. I have heard of bearing problems but this hasnt happened to this one yet. 2007 with 56000km

My sister has one. I think it's an alright car, she hasn't had many problems with it. I was more so suggesting it just because it's a Toyota. Had a Corolla before and don't think I ever had any problem with it, and I knew the guy who owned it before me who had it for 4 years and never had a problem

Less than €2k private? I know it has a fair few miles, but thought I'd get a bit more than that. I don't think I'd take anything less than €2400 unless I felt I really had to

We have an Auris the one of the rear brake pads was sticking intermittently there is water coming in around one of the rear lights i think just havent had the time to nail it down. The car is '07 and i wouldn't be happy with it it seems like a 'monday morning' car!
