Fireplace Mantel Damaged

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is in the correct area so apologies if not.

There is some damage to the mantel on the fireplace in my home and I was wondering if anyone could recommend how to repair it. the house was let out for a couple of years and when I moved back in I saw this on the fire (picture attached).

From what I can tell it looks like a tea light candle was left directly on the mantel and it has burned through. The laminate has been damaged and the wood is now coming away.

I'm not sure if the mantel can be repaired or not, it may even have to be replaced. It looks terrible at the moment and I'm keen to get this repaired as best I can.

I wouldn't be hopeful that you could specifically repair the location to anything close to what's there already.

Given there is already 2 different colour timbers involved, you could potentially have a new layer of timber added on top of what's there already. This could be stained to match either of the existing 2 colours.

As already said a new top hanging over both ends and the front say 10mm and stained to suit would do the trick. Either that or try and replace the whole top.

Thanks for the replies - I've spoken to the guys who originally installed the fireplace but the supplier is now out of business so they can't get a new top piece from them - they can custom make one though so I'm going to go with that.
