Using MotorCheck.ie for 1st time

    Hey folks,

Quick question - Im using the find out more information about a car a friend of mine is buying in Belfast (for use in Belfast, not bringing it over the border or anything).

It's this car - http://www.lindsayford.co.uk/Used-Car-Details/used-ford-ka-13-finale-3dr-69-ps-hatchback-frozen-white-manual-petrol-ID_621166.aspx (registration is on this page)

I've gotten a full report from MotorCheck.ie - first time I've used this site - but I haven't yet entered the following -

    Update Chassis/VIN No
    Update Vehicle Licensing Cert No
    Update NCT Cert No.

I'm guessing the bottom 2 won't apply as it's technically a UK car? What additional information can the Chassis number give me if I enter it? (Dont have it on hand, have asked her to get it off the dealer for me). Sorry if this seems like a stupidly obvious question.

Also, there is the following recall information available -
    Reference:R/2009/019
    Launch Date:17/02/2009
    Manufacturer Ref.:9u186
    Numbers Involved:7,156
    Make:FORD
    Build Start Date:26/05/2008
    Model:KA
    Build End Date:30/01/2009
    Concern:RISK OF REAR BRAKE LOCKUP
Description:It has been identified that the rear brake back plate bolts may not have been tightened to the specified torque. Should a back plate bolt fall into the brake drum, damage to the brake linings and or wheel lockup could occur.
Remedial Action:Recalled vehicles will have the rear brake back plate bolts checked to ensure that they have been tightened to the specified torque.Vehicle ID:Not Available

What action should be taken given the above - should there be some proof somewhere that this has been seen to (if applicable)?

Also, the milage seems in line with the age of the car. It says there are 2 previous owners (including current).... does this include the dealer? Again, sorry if that's obvious!

Any advice on what I should be looking at appreciated, thanks! :)

The chassis # will tell you whether the reg plates belong to that car.

You need the service history and copies of old MOTs to verify this.

    Nope.

One should always verify the service history by calling the dealers who stamped the book to make sure that the work was actually done.

Out of interest, why do a motorcheck (as opposed to a UK check) on a UK car?

Motorcheck has a number of UK data suppliers that when combined make up a detailed history that's often better than any of our competitors.

    Thanks Anan, great help there.

Would 2 previous owners on an 08 car be a bit of a red flag?

I just ordered a report on a car I am close to purchasing.

If you look at the attachment there is a slight discrepancy with the mileage from 30/01/2011 to 08/02/2011... The mileage on the later reading is lower than the mileage on the older reading????

How can something like this happen?

I wouldnt worry. Someone with large thumbs inputting the figures Id say.
