    Hi Brides,

I'm posting for my OH. She has paid a deposit for a dress and is due to pay the balance outstanding next month ahead of our wedding in March 2013.

The dress shop has said that the alterations will be done through their seamstress 6-8 weeks before the big day, so we're wondering what's the norm in the meantime - should we take away the dress now and store it at home, or leave it in shop until the time comes around for alterations?

    Thanks

I wouldn't have thought she should be paying for the dress in full until just before the alterations are done ...

My only concern would be if the shop went under, would you still get it?

My OH had her dress 6 months in advance and kept it at home, taking it in for alterations nearer the date.

I'd definitely take it home. If the place goes under you'll have no dress.

I bet she got in the same place I got mine!! I have to pay the rest by the end of july and plan on taking it with me!! I've been told that seemstresses in some shops take the piss out of you for the alterations and charge a few hundred €'s I'm going to take mine&store it at home in my parents house!!!

Yeah if she's going to pay in full, she might as well have the peace of mind of having it at home. Look out for an independent alterations person too as said. You could save up to half what the bridal shops charge.

Like everyone else said take it home. No worth taking any chances.

I dunno, I actually asked the store where I bought mine if I could hold it there for the next few weeks. Less likely to have nosey relatives popping in to have a a look at it.
