Hi, turning 17 next week and was ringing around for quotes and no insurance company will give me a quote as I am still a student.
The van I want to insure is a 1.9 tdi Vw Caddy (new model).
Anyone know any way around this or any company that would insure me?
    Tried Liberty and AXA.
    Thanks

thats called "fronting", as in using your parents as "front" drivers when really its you that is main driver... the insurance companies are wise to this.. main risk is you have accident and you're parents records are penalised for next three years.

why the commercial van for 1st insurance..

Absolutely no need for that kind of language on this forum. Keep it clean or go elsewhere.

Apologies for the language, but insurance companies really are gone unfair with the prices lately you could be the safest first time driver on the road and still have to pay over 1500 quid a year on insurance for 3 or 4 years!! Its unfair of them not even giving someone a quote!

Believe it or not insurance prices are cheaper than they have ever been before in this country. Being young, and unlicensed puts drivers in the highest risk category. These quotes are high, because the risk is high. No doubt insurers make a tonne of money out of this, but there is undoubtedly a lot of risk to take on also.

if you have valid use for commercial as a "student" most companies will prospect the risk...if parents are farming, electricians etc the kids noemal follow in that occupation.

if you are student normally commercial vans don't fall into normal vehicle for use. if you're doing construction or engineering then maybe a van for tools & equipment

Whats the use reason for van ? own use is not the correct answer

I'm commercial as well and I have the van purely for getting to work nothing else and insurance in a kick in the teeth, I can actually switch to a 115hp golf and my insurance is almost 600 quid cheaper than my little 60hp van.... work that one out?

Father is a builder and we have a farm. I do odd jobs there and a van would be useful. I explained this to a few insurers but it didnt make a difference. Van im thinking about buying has 70 bhp
