I recently finished a PLC course and went with my boyfriend to apply for jobseekers allowance. We had the form filled out, but they put the application in his name because he had his documentation and I didnt. We talked to three different people in the office at different times and they said everything was ok with the documentation. We both had letters saying we were finished college, as it was only a 1 yr course. And the woman took them and said we should receive a letter in a few wks.

Well we did and it said we were disqualified because we were still in college until the 1st of June........... we applied start of May, really because I thought we were finished.

Can anyone help, do I appeal or try and reapply? Dont know what to do......... I really thought it would be ok, annoying no one said before in the interview then I would have waited.

if the letter said you finish on the 1st june then you can not open a claim until that date

as it is now past the 1st of june reapply now

Some colleges seem to be issuing letters saying that college course finished on 1st June even if the course finished prior to that. My advice would be to go back to the college and ask for a letter stating the exact date you finished.

Same thing happened to me last year. Letter said I was finished 1st june. Had to go back with two or three letters with college stamp stating when my last exam was which was three weeks before.

They didn't understand that people dont attend college after exams.

I think they try this crap to see if you give up or something. I didn't and I got it back payed to when I first applied.

    Ah I doubt that somehow.
Exams are not the be all and end all - there is also project work etc. Social Welfare offices do not have information on each and every college course in the country and its exam/project deadlines.
You supplied a letter originally stating you were a full time student up to 1st June 2012 - you cannot claim Jobseekers if you are registered as a full time student. End of.
