Airport to Dublin 14

I have usually managed the airport route by going thro city centre via Gardiner Street. Maybe I dont do it as often now? Twice in last few months, I have been stuck coming back down Gardiner Street to Customs House for solid 30 minutes from 6 pm while made good time on rest of route. It seems to be the Luas extension that had clobbered the junction as it crosses over. Is it the same story coming down Amiens Street or going via the new bridge to Macken Street?

It is hard to know how to get to airport these days if tight on time. I went this time via M50 but was not happy with volume of traffic and 'collision at J? expect delays' signs... We made it in 40 minutes and did not encounter delay on M50 having left Goatstown after 5 pm.

Person I was taking was unwell and aercoach would have been slow/late. Perhaps a taxi might have been better option but no joy for taxi on Gardiner Street either?

Any better suggestions for thru city route? I suppose I hoped being June and bank holiday week that traffic levels would be managable.

I would have thought from Goatstown that the M50 would always be the best option. Rarely gets snarled up and it's usually pretty predictable. Too many variables going through town.

Are you stuck for time coming back from the airport or on your way to the airport? Your post is a bit unclear to me.

Why be stuck for time, just leave earlier?

Sorry if I was unclear. I did not intend to drive but deliver to coach but passenger was unwell so we were running late. M50 was fine except for tailback getting thru the Ballinteer roundabout coming from Sandyford and busy local roads up to there. I should have returned the same way.

I am not used to using the M 50 and more familiar with city drive. With onset of Aercoach though, I would rarely drive to the airport nowadays. Just a pity no Luas extension..... I suppose toll bridge at O2 might have been good alternative but can get stuck at Merrion Gates junction.
