    Hello all,

A couple of friends of mine who are Luftwaffe collectors are thinking of holding an exhibition. It will be all Luftwaffe items so it may not appeal to everyone. There will be however as part of the exhibition DkiG, EK I's etc so some general awards too.

It will not be ready until the beginning of 2013 as many things such as location will have to be decided upon. I will also be showing some of my collection at it. I will be getting some photographs taken professioanlly as I hope to put some of the items that will be on exhibit onto a leaflet. I will circulate the leaflet six months in advance of the show going ahead.

If you are interested in attending please post a reply.

    Sounds interesting, keep us posted.

By the way, the forum regular Morlar does professional photographs of militaria.

    What sort of items?

I'm still hoping to see some of the large aircraft bits gathered during 'emergency', although I know that they are gone...

I think it sounds good. Definitely interested in attending that, also taking some pics if that's ok.

    Thank you Preusse.

Yes, I am friends with Morlar. Thanks for the heads up about his photgraphy skills. I have spoken to him before about that and hope to do something soon.

    Hi FiSe,

I will give a brief list.

There will be Luftwaffe flight tunics from the rank of corproal to colonel. These tunics have award loops some to DKiG recipients.

There will be qualification badges of the various different jobs ie pilot badge, observer badge, radio operator / air gunner badges. Some will be cased.

Operatioanl flight clasps to bomber, fighter and reconnaissance in their various different grades bronze, silver and gold. Some of these will be cased.

Period photographs. Period Luftwaffe issued maps.

Pilot winter and summer helmets and various other cloth head gear.

Pilot, Observer and Glider pilot log books some of which were recorded in KriegSchule to actual operational flights.

    Instruments of navigiation.

Tanks for the reply and keep us posted.
Don't know why, but I am thinking that Curragh camp might be the most suitable place for this exhibition... True a bit off the beaten track

Well at least it is only a year and your not forced to go permanently. I have some frieds over there who went for a year. They liked it so much that they applied for a second visa for another year. :)

If the exhibition goes well there should be more to follow so hopefully you get to see one of them. :D

Just saw this. FWIW I've some Luftwaffe stuff laying around if it's any use to ye for the exhibition. Tailwheel from a JU 87(B) Stuka, altimeter, compass and ammeter from same. I've also a pilot/navigator wrist compass(1st version from '39), a pilots watch from the 30's though not an officially issued one they were popular with Luftwaffe pilots and has some history behind it. I think I've other luftwaffe stuff knocking around(maps and such). I'll have a look, but they would be the main items.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    Hi Wibbs,

Yes, it sounds like you have some great stuff. It would certainly be an addition to any display. :)

Have a look and see what else you can come up with so far everything lese sounds great.

    Hi kabakuyu,

Your more than welcome to attend if it goes ahead. :)

To answer your question. Yes, I would like to expand the theme to the Heer and Kriegsmarine too but I am not a millionaire and I can only afford so much. I think this is something in general that alot of people do not realise. In the past when I have set up at fairs and shows I always get people who come up to me and say things like "where are the Knights Crosses at?" as if they just grow on trees. ha ha When I point this fact out to the individual and say something like "I have an EhrenPokal and a German Cross in this case over here instead" they look disappointed with me again EP and DkiG do not grow on trees either and I doubt very much that a lot of people who have seen mine even know what they are.

It can be hard to organise such events and sometimes very disheartening because you can never keep every one happy. If there is an exhibit being held with €25000 worth of items on display and there is a cover charge of €2 at the door you will have people who will complain and moan about the €2 entrance fee despite the fact that their are items of great historical interest on show for the them. Items that are on display for them because due to financial circumstances and everyone is different, but not everyone can afford them. It can be a thankless task but there is always one person that appreciates it and these are the people that make it worth while and what makes myself continue on doing it.

However friends of mine who are also serious collectors more so than I just do not bother displaying their stuff anymore, they got fed up.

I asked people earlier on in this thread to e-mail if they were interested in receiving updates on the exhibit. I can also e-mail them photographs. So far I have received one phone call and one e-mail address.

I am trying my best but I need others to help so if you are interested please PM. :):):)

    Hi LW,

I would love to attend to see this stuff but it is just not possible. But people that collect such items are already a rare breed, most stumble into it accidentally or through coincidence and build from there.

Which does not mean people are not interested. If you look at battlefield tours - Hastings, Waterloo, Somme - many people are very interested in such history but do not collect the items but would like to see them.

So maybe you should cast your net much wider to historical societies and the like??
