Hi Folks, Hope this is not done much as i dont wish to pee you off.

To give more room in the car this year i have decided to get a roof box going on hols. The thing what pisses me off severly is the feet.

There is a rubber cup to sit on the roof but the end of the foot is metal against metal. Granted it is under the door seal but as my car is black i imagine this will mark.

Is this normal. Is there something i can do to prevent this.

I am thinking of cutting a bike tube and putting it over the end of the clamp but am afraid it will affect the roof rack strength.

Any opinion..... I would be greatful

    Thanks

I have used thule roofbars over the years on my black avensis saloon over the years with no issues with the feet.

The metal feet did not mark the paint.

You need to measure the roof line to make sure that the bars are in the right place

What i did do the first time is to put a small piece of black insulating tape on the car either side of where the metal piece of the feet were so that the next time i put them on that there was no measureing involved.

    Hope this helps

I was thinking of doing that. You obv had no problems. I thought the tape might cause the paintwork to corrode under it.

    Just to clarify.

i put the insulating tape on EITHER SIDE of where the metal part of the feet would touch the recess so that each time i would put the bars on at the same spot.

the metal feet were straight onto the metal with no problem.

I think especially the front bar needs to be in the right place because of the curve of the roofline so measure it carefully

Are the Thule bars easy to get off the car in a hurry??

    Like most things

The first time takes ages because you have to keep checking what you are doing.

Each time after that it is just 4 adjustment screws.

    10 mins max
