Cyclist dies after Wexford road collision

    A CYCLIST HAS died after after she and a teenager were struck by a 4×4 vehicle in Wexford this evening.
    The 46-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were struck by the vehicle on the New Line Road at Wexford just before 8pm this evening.
    The pair were taken to Wexford General Hospital where the 46-year-old woman died. The teenager has been discharged from the hospital this evening.
    Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the collision to contact Wexford Garda station on 053 916 5200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

    Oh janey, that's literally just around the corner from me, I cycle this road almost every day to work. Not sure if it's right to say, but that could've easily been me. Maybe I should do a Ghost Bike.

    Garda press release:

    Fatal Road Traffic Collision Wexford 4th June 2012
    Gardaí in Wexford are investigating a Fatal Road Traffic collision which occurred at New Line Road, Wexford at approximately 7.40pm on Monday June 4th 2012.

    Two female cyclists (16yrs & 46yrs) were struck by a 4X4 vehicle. They were both taken to Wexford General Hospital. The 46year old female died this evening (5/6/12) as a result of her injuries. The 16 year old girl has been discharged from Hospital.

    Garda are appealing for witnesses to contact Wexford Garda Station on 053-9165200, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

    I drive that road regularly, I would not cycle or walk it. To busy , narrow and fast.

    I'd cycle that road by times; it's only as fast as people choose to drive, which is often too fast. Thinking about it, I wouldn't walk it either. It was busier than usual last weekend with the bank holiday and historic re-enactment on in Duncannon. Quite a few cyclists out too.
