Car, VLC, license/passport, money. Did you check that all the obvious stuff works?

Had nothing except cash and just went through myself a few days ago.

Had NCT today and had driving licence and the NCT letter that's all as I could not find my car reg cert/ log book . It was fine . I put them up on the counter and all the lady took over to her side was the nct letter .
Oh and she took the money too ... No fear about that .
All went well though . Good luck

That used to always be the way, but apparently they're getting a lot stricter recently. I brought a car in today, handed them the VLC and my passport, and they had a good look at both. They might well have tested the car without, but it's probably not worth risking a wasted trip/cancellation charge.

    You need to bring

    1. Your Car (Very important) ;)
    2. Logbook
    3. Licence (Won't give out pass certs without now)
    4. €55

Let them find any faults, don't waste your money guessing for problems.

Check the obvious: oil, brake fluid, steering fuild, coolant, tyre pressure

    :)

    From NCT.ie:
Please prepare for the test by ensuring that:

    1. Your car has adequate oil and water.

    2. The boot is empty and seats are clear of personal belongings such as removable baby seats. If the baby seat is left in the car for the NCT, it will be checked that it is fitted correctly.

    3. The vehicle is reasonably clean (especially the under body).

    4. The wheel hubcaps are removed (only in the case where the wheel nuts are not visible) and the tyres are inflated to the correct pressure.

    5. The engine is in a fit state to be tested e.g. Cam belt/timing belt. You may be asked to sign a disclaimer at the test centre.

    6. Seat belts and clips are fully visible.

    7. Your registration plates comply with current regulations.

    8. NCTS recommend that you have your lights checked and set prior to the NCT.

    9. Please ensure you bring identification (Driving licence or Passport only) with you as you will be asked to produce this when presenting your vehicle for inspection at the test centre. From 1st May 2012, failure to produce the required identification will result in your vehicle not being issued an NCT certificate at the time of testing.

    10. Please ensure your vehicle is at a normal operating temperature prior to arriving at the test centre for inspection.

    11. Don't forget to bring your vehicle registration book, registration certificate or licensing certificate and your test fee!

Please ensure you remove all valuables/personal belongings from the vehicle prior to the NCT.
If the above items are not taken care of, NCTS may be unable to test your vehicle.
To ensure you don't miss your appointment, we recommend that you plan to arrive 10 minutes early or you may have to re-book for another day and pay a cancellation fee.

I have my NCT booked for Tuesday but I just realised today that I don't have a log book (I thought it was a blue 'book' that was in the glovebox when I got the car, but turns out it's just an owners manual).

I have the vehicle registration document though, would that be enough!? I know they've gotten more strict on ID/drivers license recently, but any word about the log book specifically??

The confirmation text I got only mentioned bringing a license and the vehicle registration document, but I'm getting worried now.

The vehicle registration document is what used to be called a log book, so you have it, you're all set.

Thanks, I thought though that the log book was an actual book of information about the service record, previous owners etc? I don't have any of that information on the vehicle registration document (just basic details about the car itself and date of first registration). I'm hoping it'll be enough anyway though, too late now if I need an actual log book for Tuesday :/

Edit: Oh I just saw with the vehicle reg doc it says "the vehicle registration certificate is the identity document (log book) for your vehicle". Guess that's it then :o

If you have alloys make sure the nuts are showing. I got a fail for that. But way more serious I have play on the wheel, mechanic checking it out next week. Not good

Depends on the NCT centre and tester unfortunately, it's very hit and miss. What centre?
