Thai Visa- Confused!

    Hi all,

Im flying out to Thailand mid June for 56 days and have a few queries with regards to the required visa

Basically when we land we'll be staying in Bangkok for 3 days, then heading up to Chang Mai for another 4 days.

After that we plan to travel to Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, for about 10 days in total. We will then be re entering Thailand through Cambodia

Can anyone tell me if a standard tourist visa will be enough for our trip or will we need to get a double entry visa? I'm reading conflicting reports online and can't get to the bottom of it

    Thanks in advance

The tourist visa in arrival for Thailand is for 30 days, so if you're only 10 days across to the other countries, you're still 46 days in Thailand, which means you'd need to apply for a proper visa.
Our friends that had travelled over 30 days total across Asia with less than 30 days in Thailand had issues re-entering the country but played the "we were in Thailand under 30 days" card by showing their travel tickets out of Thailand. On that occasion they were let through, but it's likely it was an exception, not the rule.
Personally if I were you I would get a proper visa, or contact the embassy directly with the re-entry questions.

You will get conflicting info on this issue both officially and through non official channels.
Basically it all depends on the border guard on the day,I have crossed into Thailand possibly 50 times and only once did I have an issue where they granted me 10 days entry only.
I have heard stories of people getting fined, guards looking for a kick back or them just making it difficult.
Never have I seen them turn someone away but they can make it akward if they want or you might have no problem at all.
It depends on you,do you think you would prefer to travel with all your boxes ticked or are you comfortable to take a chance and possibly face hassle slim and all as it may be.
It does not cost a lot to get the 60 day visa but it might take a bit of time.
Personally I wouldn't,did I read correctly your attempting to do Laos,Cambodia and Vietnam in 10 days, why so short given you have 56 as these countries have more to offer than Thailand at the moment not to mention they are cheaper.

You can get a 60 day Thai tourist visa in Vientiane or Phnom Penh pretty quickly. It's 1000 baht in Vientiane. It was free last year in Phnom Penh but I'm not sure if it still is.

I presume you know you'll need visas for Cambodia and Vietnam also? You can get the Laos visa at the border.

When you fly you get 30 day visa on arrival. At land crossings you only get 15 day visa on arrival to Thailand. (all free) You dont need to apply just show up.

Travailing Thailand to Laos you will also get a 30 day visa on arrival and it will cost about 30 US dollars.

You'll then need to get a Vietnam visa either before you go, in Bangkok or in Vientiane. Costs about 40 US dollars. it takes a few days to get it back but I'm not sure i think I remember hearing it might be the same day.

Then you from Vietnam you can get a Cambodian visa on arrival at the border for about 30-35 US dollars too.

Then from Cambodia back to Thailand for 15 day visa on arrival for free.

The visa prices are always changing and there is a 'tax' at some borders but they average about 30 dollars.
