Does volunteering affect Back To Education Allowance?

So I'll be doing my Leaving starting September, but I have to be on social welfare a certain amount of time to qualify for the allowance. But I'm an active person and like to keep busy. Does volunteering disqualify me?

You will need to get prior approval from the Dept of Social Protection to do voluntary work while you are on Jobseeker payments. This document sets out the type of voluntary work which is likely to be approved. http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Press/PressReleases/2010/Pages/pr120210.aspx
