Focus due a service-what should I expect to pay

My 2006 Focus Zetec Connection is due its first service (since I got it). Its a 1.6L Petrol with about 120,000 km on the clock. Its my first car so not really experienced in sevices and how much I should expect to pay. Rang a couple of places and one quoted me €160 for a full service and another quoted
€190. Seems a bit much to me. One of them was saying that Fords (or at least Focus's) need special fuel economy oil which is extra, not sure if this is cack or not.

Not sure what sort of a service the garage I got it off gave it but I'm presuming it was a basic enough one.

Do those prices seem a bit much, and if so can anyone recommend a place in Clare that might be a bit more reasonable cos at those prices I won't be getting it serviced anytime soon.

Charlie McEnery is a sound guy and his garage is my garage of choice when i cannot fix what's wrong with my car.
    And he's reasonable.
    As for standard service?
Go around the corner to Naughton's motor factor and get some oil, filters and sparks and give it a whirl, it's really not that hard.

Cheers. I rang him and was quoted 160 for full service. Think it was 100 for basic. Anyone have any idea if the whole 'fuel economy oil' thing is legit, (was told that by another garage) never heard of it being a neccessity in Focus's, but that doesn't mean it isn't, I'm no mechanic

The first thing you need to do is to figure out exactly what needs doing. Have a look in your service book and it'll tell you what's due at the 120k kms service. You'll also need to check that the car was properly serviced in the past, as anything left out before may now be overdue. Once you have this info then you can shop around for the best price. You should have done this before buying it, but hey, what's done is done.:)

Main Ford dealers often do offers of service for around 140 and you get your book stamped by a main dealer. :D

Car has full service history and only one previous owner. Was due a service before I collected it and was NCT'd the same week too. Just not sure what type of a service was done. I'm presuming the garage would have only done the basics. I'll have a look in the service book if I can locate it. Cheers

Thanks, I'll give them a bell in the morning and see what they say.

All modern fords require 5w30 semi syntetic (never heard anyone call it fuel economy oil). 4 litres of the stuff can be purchased in Halfords at the moment for €20(special offer) so it should not push up the cost of a service. The focus is a very popular car so i would imagine garages would bulk buy this oil and get it even cheaper.
If you can get a service at a ford dealer for same price as indy i would stick with ford imo.

Or buy a service pack from your main dealer and do it yourself, i done the fathers 1.6 Focus on Saturday takes very little time and very little experience, full service pack 5L oil, oil filter, 4x spark plugs, air filter and screen wash came in at 50 euro and thats all OEM.

Is there instructions with the pack ?

Its impossible to say how much a 'service' will cost without knowing what items are due.

Service is not a generic term, there are different things due at different mileages and years/age.

So we are clear here - 5l oil, oil filter, spark plugs (4) and air filter (not to mention screen wash) for 50E???

    Link, or GTFO!
