    Hi everyone,

Just wondering what's the cheapest insurance company to go with for my first car and on a provisional license at 18.

I got a quote of €1800. This was good compared to €3500 + ? What do u think?

Plus they won't let me go on as a named driver if let's say my mom buys another car. Dunno why? Does anyone know? And could I get a better quote than €1800?

    Thanks

There is no single best company. Quotes vary as to what sort of customers they want in their portfolio.
€1800 is definately good compared with a "F off quote" of €3500+. Seems like you have already rang around etc.
I can't make sense of the other bit.

    1800 on what car?

No one can tell you how good or bad it is as everyone's quotes will be different.

Ring around to every insurance broker/insurance company you can and see for yourself is the best advice. Depending on the car I reckon you could do better, but its very difficult to say.

Thanks Alanstrainor. I was thinking the same. It's a 2001 polo 1 litre. It's the cheapest I could find. Axa, Hibernia and 123 were the dearest at €3600 or more. Ya I've been ringing brokers and they are all around €1800 for this car.

Can anyone recommend a cheaper insurance provider that they may have been with for their first car?

Ring Britton insurances, they got my younger brother a quote of 1300 thurd party fire and theft, and he was in the same boat as you except a year older and driving a micra.

I would also recommend trying First Ireland, I have a 1 litre,'01 polo and paying just less than 1 thousand (on provisional license, and I'm the main driver, but I am 21 so I know that makes a difference)

Thanks. Ya I rang them. It came to €1909 for an 01 polo. Kinda mad. Got another quote from another broker for €1560. ARB seem to be the best insurance company for young drivers. They only operate through brokers. Every little helps!!!:)

€1800 TPFT is what i'm paying at 25 on a 1.4. So that's a good quote imo. When I was 18 tried to get insured on a 1litre corsa, anywhere i rang wanted €4000+

Ah alright, Looking out for one myself. They say the 1.6 is just as good on fuel :)

First Ireland appear to be the most decent for young people around at the moment it seems.
