hi my 2006 imac 24 inch intel is running dreadfully slow , Its the spinning ball syndromeand stuff just wont load all these usual slowing stuff, have replaced the hard drive upgraded to 4 gig ram , removed anti virus software , even in target mode it cant be accessed, the video card is fine , have done the hardware check and no problems reported, used mackeeper to test and no reported problems, , its like it may work ok for 5-10 or maybe 20 mins then just totally siezes up, rendering it useless
has anyone come across this problem ?maybe its time for the scrapheap :(

I suggest you check your system log for clues to your problem.

Open the Console app and view the time stamped entries up to the time when it hangs.

    used mackeeper to test

That could be a clue. MacKeeper can cause such symptoms. Read the very last post on this page. Then scroll; back up and read the rest:

Ok I've deleted that darn mackeeper , should have known it was a dodgy job , any how thanks for the heads up ,
I have managed to get in to the console as the mac kind of switched itself back on just before I deleted mackeeper  but I don't really understand the text log, how do I translate this muggyog? Can I post a section of the log here?
    Thanks

Maybe the Mac is a bit schizophrenic like yourself ;)

The underlying structure of OS X is Unix so the logs are a useful ( if cryptic ) tool to see what is going on 'under the hood'. To fault find look for events that occur just before the hang. You can have the Console app open in the background ( system or console log ) and switch immediately to it when the problem occurs. You can google the individual timestamped events for help.
