Would anyone reckon you could get away with leaving out say the Mezzogiorno altogether, and just write about Paris if asked for a European region? The majority of the time they ask for a a Eurpean region of your choice. Really stuck for time like :/

I wouldn't suggest it. Don't forget that they could ask to compare economic activities in two European regions.
