    Hi everyone,

I would like to put up a gazibo/tent on my side drive way, to allow me to work under it as the garage is too small for my car, and the weather is not good enough these days.

My drive way is on the side of the house. It is side by side to the neighbours drive way. I will obviously talk to them about it, but I don't see this as been a problem they have no window facing on this wall and we get on well.

The gazibo/tent will be align to the front of the house.

It will be a temporary construction, I will simply have metal post and a tarpaulin type as roof and wall.

I was wondering is it ok to have a temporary structure on his driveway like that, or if I need to ask somebody ?
It will be about 6m*2.60*3.5 (L*W*H)

I am in Co.Dublin if that makes any difference.
    Cheers

From SI No. 600 of 2001.

The following is considered to be an exempted development, provided it is not within the curtilage of a protected structure.
    CLASS 3

The construction, erection or placing within the curtilage of a house of any tent, awning, shade or other object, greenhouse, garage, store, shed or other similar structure.

    provided that:
    1. No such structure shall be constructed, erected or placed forward of the front wall of a house.

    2. The total area of such structures constructed, erected or placed within the curtilage of a house shall not, taken together with any other such structures previously constructed, erected or placed within the said curtilage, exceed 25 square metres.

    3. The construction, erection or placing within the curtilage of a house of any such structure shall not reduce the amount of private open space reserved exclusively for the use of the occupants of the house to the rear or to the side of the house to less than 25 square metres.

    4. The external finishes of any garage or other structure constructed, erected or placed to the side of a house, and the roof covering where any such structure has a tiled or slated roof, shall conform with those of the house.

    5. The height of any such structure shall not exceed, in the case of a building with a tiled or slated pitched roof, 4 metres or, in any other case, 3 metres.

    6. The structure shall not be used for human habitation or for the keeping of pigs, poultry, pigeons, ponies or horses, or for any other purpose other than a purpose incidental to the enjoyment of the house as such.

In your case the canvas roof is too high, therefore it would need planning permission.

Thanks a million for your help, I will make sure I am in the dimension for not requiring a planning permission.

Thanks again you really make my day. ;)

Have a look around where you work and play. I'll bet you will see several gazebos up at the front, back and sides of houses. Most of these are left there for the summer. And no planner will ever challenge that:pac:

I hope you are not suggesting it is acceptable to break the law.

I was thinking about this but it is not my house, so I can't really drill there.
So I am going for a solution which would not bother people hopefully, it is just me who will have a bit more work to build this. ;)
