Buying decorative stones - how much will I need

I have a garden path which I just cleaned out. It was filled with weeds.

Hoping to put decorative stone in it, but no idea how much I'd need.

The path is 10m long, by 1m wide. The depth of stones likely to be between 10cm and 15cm (so up to 1.5 cubic metres).

So will half a tonne do it, or one tonne, or two?

Any advice about the best way to prepare the path too would be appreciated. I have sprayed weedkiller on it today. Planning to put down weed control fabric too.

I covered an area of about 2.5M x 5M and it took a tonne. However the depth was not even close to 10-15cm. I would suggest approx 1.5 - 2 tonne if going for that depth or you would certainly get away with 1.5 tonne at less depth.

Look up the bagged stuff on any website of the big companies that sell it and it will give you a guide. Buying in bulk will be much cheaper when you go to buy... Donegal quartz is very nice by the way.

What was on the garden path? If there is already concrete/stone then just put down the plastic and spread the stones. If it's just grass then you might want to pack some ordinary stone first.

    Hope this helps.
