    hey...
Can anyone (preferably gardai) tell me what is needed when applying for gardai. e.g honours irish?. Also what looks good on a c.v when applying for the gardai? Does education play a big part when they are choosing their applicants?

    thanks...

What is meant by the following ?
Like Grades in another examination, which, in the opinion of the Minister for Justice, Equality & Law Reform, is not of a lower standard than the above.

Has anybody here ever got into AGS under this ? I have a LC but don't have a second language.

Dont hold your breath about trying to get into the Guards, when recruitment does take place in god knows how many years, there will be thousands applying for very few places, and im sure they will be picky and choosey about who they will take on as they will have the upper hand.

ya i have been told that a lot of times now haha. What i need to know is what can i put on my CV that will make me stand out above the rest?...and to be honest im only 16 so hopefully by the time im of age they might not be so picky and choosey when it comes to picking gardai...:o

You won't be using a CV, as such. The recruitment process is structured. Tis been a while but I think it's initial application(name and address) first, then written test. If you are successful at this stage you fill out the full application form, which includes all the details a CV may have. After this form is submitted(which includes security clearance) you may be called for interview. If you are successful at interview you will then be called for medical, which includes a physical agility test.

unless of course, your uncle is a chief super or assistant commissioner

then youll have a great advantage over everyone else!

    Exactly.

With the way things are going......fingers crossed.

As already mentioned I don't have a second language i.e French/German. The only thing that would hold me back. How are PLC courses look upon ?

Not at all. Unless your uncle is on the interview panel. This is unlikely as you hve provided a list of all your aunts and uncles before the interview.

Thats good that no one has an advantage cause the one that has a class C.V may be hopeless when it comes down to the work that the gardai are meant to do, whereas the one with very little on a C.V may be one of the finest gardai in the country!....The one with a nice personality, and the one who is not afraid is the one who should be made a gardai...but hey thats only my oppinion...

I understand that under the rating system used for recruiting the fact that a candidate is a member of the Garda Reseve gives a percentage advantage to a candidate.
If a candidate is not too well up as regards the educational qualification though meeting the requirement the fact that he/she has worked with the Reserves and had an opportunity to impress will be a big advantage. He/she will also b e in a good position at interview stage

That'll probably me the main requirement for next campaign which irritates me but having said that if I got in that way I wouldn't turn it down on principle.:D
