PlayStation games on PlayStation 2

Dusted off the old console recently, to play Silent Hill.

I am using it on a PlayStation 2 console. However, the game does not recognise PlayStation 2 memory cards. This may be an obvious question, but will a PlayStation 2 recognise an original PlayStation memory card?

Should do, though it has problems with some 3rd party memory cards.

Ok. But any idea why the game won't just recognise a PlayStation 2 memory card?

The game won't recognise the PS2 memory card because the PS2 memory cards save in bits(or bytes or whatever) and PS1 games save in blocks.

Hmm, I see. Will my PS3 recognise the game if I try it in that? And will I be able to save it then? (I am not in the same building as it right now, hence the question!)

Yup, you can create internal ps1 memory cards for this on the ps3.

You need a PS1 card ti save PS1 games on the PS2. It won't work with a PS2 memory card.

Cheers for that guys. Amazing how this has all slipped my memory! So I will wait and use it on the PS3 instead then, and it will save on that?

You create virtual memory cards on the PS3. Will save no bother.
