How many miles, roughly, should I get out of a pair of tyres?

I'm running Schwalbe Ultremo ZXs front and rear because they came with the bike. They're a fine tyre, although an early puncture did cause me to question their durability. They're a slick, with no thread on them at all, so it's difficult to judge wear, they don't have pits in them like motorcycle slicks.

How many miles should I expect to get out of them before they need replacing? I don't mind erring on the side of safety, not keen on running them until they fail.

You'll know they're worn when you start getting regular punctures.

Good tyre. I've found the Schwalbes have good puncture resistance but wear quickly compared to other tyres. Quite fast rolling too.

I'd a pair and got about 2,500km out of them - only changed them when they started to get quite cut up and I got worried about them blowing out. I think the wear was mostly cosmetic.

My Ultremos R1 that came with the bike lasted approximately 7,000km. And the front one was still usable.
Only one puncture ever, not road based (happened in a metal fabrication workshop).
