    Hi,

I play airsoft since 2005. I am from Germany and admin of one of the biggest German speaking airsoft community forums, www.6millimeter.info.

My team is called B.S.V., as a team we host airsoft events in the czech republic on a regular basis. We have attended several big airsoft events in europe, for example in the Czech Republik, Austria, France and Belgium. Our last big even was Borderwar in CZ.

As well as several different game outfits, my team also does US Army and LRRP Vietnam Reenactment as well as US Special Forces 2001 Afghanistan Battle Display.

As a Team other than usual equipment we have a Willys M38A1 Jeep and a REO M36A2 Deuce and a Halve Truck for our Vietnam Reeactment.

Since I am staying in Galway for the next 10 weeks, I am planning on visiting several Airsoft Sites and maybe small games for documentation on our homepage www.6millimeter.info. Can you give me some hints as to whom to talk to concerning visit of sites and maybe games?

    Thank you very much.

Look in the Events and Sites sub forums on the front page. Up coming events are there.

Thank you very much. I already have seen this map. Looks really lonely around Galway. :( However, my experience in Germany about such maps says there are not all the available sites entered.

    Guten abend Benjamin,

You are right, most of those map sites are useless. AFAIK, the nearest sites to Galway at the moment are in Broadford (north of Limerick) and there is Tigerland in Sligo. But other posters here can let you know of alternative sites. The events page here on boards is not too bad for what is happening for bigger games around the country.

As someone just returned from Austria I can tell you a little about how the airsoft scene differs here. For starters we have loads of sites, and most are open every weekend to any member of the public over 13 years old. Game typically cost about €20 for a day. The drawback to having so many sites though is that the numbers at any given one can be smaller. And there are plenty of poor sites. You will probably also find that the profile of players here is very different. There are more younger players, and their standard/level of equipment would be far lower that you might be used to. Its not unusual to be playing with a group of teenagers with in tracksuits and hoodies, armed with just a cheap clone AEG and 1 or 2 hi-caps each. At the same time you will find people and teams who have spent considerable amounts perfecting their loadouts.

In general I would said that Airsoft is an individuals sport here in Ireland. We have plenty of active teams, but the majority of players turn up to games on their own (or just with a group of friends).

Events here also tend to be much smaller than what you might be used to (particularly compared to the likes of Border War). This is because the sport is younger in Ireland, and as we have few large sites capable of hosting such games. The Rionegro game in August (full disclosure, I am a key organiser) is about as big as it gets. That will be 27 hours with about 250 players.

I am happy to help you with more questions, and I can provide you with pointers towards some of the better sites. The big question is how able are you to travel while you are here. If you can get around then there are interesting things to see here. We may be relatively new to Airsoft, but some Irish sites are running excellent games that are far better every week that anything I did in 2 years in Austria. And I would recommend trying to get north of the border to see how the Airsoft scene is a little different in Northern Ireland as well.

Feel free to drop me a PM if you want.

Hi, and thank you for your useful information. Since I want to gather information for our website www.6millimeter.info, I would like to visit the more popular sites in Ireland as well as northern ireland. I am here with my own car, so travel on weekends will be no problem. However if getting to a game site i would need some rental gun and gear since I dont have anything like that with me.

Unfortunately I will not be in-country anymore for your rionegro event, this would have been really interesting.

Where in Austria have you been? How long have you been there?

Isn't there a few German lads that play down in rebel airsoft, bandon?

I could be completely wrong now so don't hold me to it, but it would be nice for you to get some perspective from some fellow countrymen.

Yeah, there is. I haven't been down there in awhile (Leaving Cert. and all that :o) so I don't know if they still play there but there was a few German players there the last few games I managed to attend.

I was in Vienna for 2 years. I used to play with the RPAC (Russian Players Airsoft Club).

As you can travel then I would start with Tigerland: http://www.sligoairsoft.com/

    Benjamin,

I am in Galway and you're right, it's a bit barren locally airsoft-wise. I do travel regularly to Tigerland in Sligo though which is one of the best sites in the country - phenominal setting and you won't meet more honourable players. I'd be happy to give you a lift up and renting gear is no problem. I'll likely be heading up on the 16th of this month. Drop me a pm if you are interested.

    Cheers
