    Hey everyone,
I was wandering whats the situation with driving a 50 cc scooter..When I got my learner permit, I didnt put down this option on my licence..so now when I get my full licence, would I be able to put dat option down on my licence and be able to drive a scooter without doing my theory again or passing any stupid exams ?..also whats with the insurance on a scooter like this  I know in some countries like Poland or Germany, you only need your ID and insurance to drive one of those..how is it here in Ireland ? :) thanks.

You'll need to do a theory test and get a learner permit to ride a scooter. You no longer get a 50cc license with a B full license.

You will also have to do the Initial Basic Training for bike's before you can go out on the road.

They're out to get you in Ireland i'm afraid. A real shower of anti-2 wheeled veeh-ickle lads are in charge over here

Don't mind Mr Chip On Shoulder above, while you're looking to ride a 50cc scooter, believe me you'd still needs lessons even if they were not mandatory.

50cc's are primarily for urban use, so having the need for proper observation being drilled into you is a must (my instructor told me to ride as if everything was trying to kill me, I soon realised he wasn't far wrong). Don't complain about having to do something that could well save your life; quite literially.

As far as I remember only 2 companies offer insurance for bikes, Quinn now liberity and Carole Nash. The cost is 'how long is a piece of string' as in age, bike size, location etc etc. Expect to pay low to mid three figures, if you're worried about the cost of insurance please, please, please don't scrimp on the cost of your Helmet and Clothing.

Even though you may only be doing <60kph if you come off in anything other than good safety gear it won't be nice, I'll just say this to you; go outside knell on the road and rub your palm across it, hurts doesn't it.

On a personal note I always thought it was crazy that just because you had a car licence meant you could legally ride a 50cc without a test (let alone lessons). One good thing about riding bikes, is that it will make you a much, much, better car driver.

hi, i have a full b licence, and im pretty sure its an m licence as well. i dont have it with me to check but i was looking at it last week and i came away thinking ok i can drive a scooter under 50cc, so i reckon the M box is ticked.

if it is, will this suffice, does anyone know the process? at what point will they say, hold up sonny, have you taken ibt training or whatever its called, and how much does this training cost?

    cheers for reading,
    redd .
