I'm looking to buy one of them really good camera's? The big hi-tec ones, but like I'm only 16, almost 17 and my funding isn't the best so it would have to be a cheap one :P
    Can anyone recommend a camera?
It doesn't have too be top of the range or anything just something in the line.
    I'm sure somebody know's what I'm talking about? :)

Not meaning to be rude, but how much knowledge of photography have you?
I presume you're on about a DSLR or bridge camera?
But having a "big, fancy" camera alone won't get you great pictures.
Knowing how to use it will. Things like aperture and shutter speed are very important.
How much would you be looking to spend? I'd reccomend a Canon 350D or Nikon D60. They go for around 200-300 second hand with a lens if you do some looking!

How much money do you have?

    I started on a 350D can't fault it.

Some idea of your budget will help point you in the right direction.. A new Canon 1100D with kit 18-55 lens can be picked up for 450 euro.. Plenty of second hand equivalent entry level DSLR cameras on www.adverts.ie even cheaper?

That's my point exactly I don't have knowledge of camera's at all but I bring my normal small camera everywhere with me taking random pictures!
Um, I suppose my budget would be around... €300, give or take a little?

Shouldn't you first learn about what advanced cameras like DSLRs actually do? Google is your friend, buying something you don't understand is your enemy.

Just buy a camera like a 300D or 350D. The only way you'll learn about it is to have it in your hands and start shooting with it.

Advanced cameras like SLR's do the same thing as compact small cameras. They take pictures. An advanced camera like a DSLR will allow you to have more control over how those pictures are taken, should you choose to use the more advance manual controls. It still allows you to be snap happy and use the auto functions until you build your confidence up.

It can be daunting and a steep learning curve to get to grips with all the technical side of things and understanding how everything works.
If you're willing to put some effort in and go out and spend time trying to use the manual settings and expect to make mistakes to learn, then its worth it!

This forum is great for advice, youtube will explain things your not sure of and even digital photo magazines can help, give you an insight into the post processing/"photoshop" side of working on your images to get them to how you want them to look.

A bit reductive. If she's on a tight budget and doesn't even know that you'll need different lenses (almost all of which will out-price the suggested camera itself) for different types of photography on DSLRs then it could well be that a bridge camera would be the right choice. I know if someone said 'get a second-hand 300D' when I didn't know anything I'd look at them cross-eyed and confusedly nod my head. From everything I've seen here she needs to start at absolute ground zero before even thinking he's ready to buy a camera. If you don't know what you need you can't buy with any confidence.

The only advice you can give is try out cameras in a store or ask someone that you know is into photography to test their cameras out, or to start very simple and google terms like 'DSLR' and 'bridge camera' and learn the basics of what each entails and then search for reviews on said types of camera - DigitalRev do some fantastically fun and easy to digest reviews that'll cover you on that front.
