Ah it's an article by Jody Corcoran, sleazebag "journalist" favoured by Bertie and Cowen and cheerleader for all that's sick in Irish politics. I wouldn't read it even if it was revealing that Tubs was fired.

Cheap, lazy 'journalism' complaining about drink being taken, there is no story here. The show was a huge success on Friday, credit where it is due. Tubridy did well for once, it was a 2 1/2 hour show with a huge number of interviews and some difficult guests, and he kept it flowing nicely.

This is a free country, people are entitled to have a drink if they want. Graham Norton drinks wine on his show every week and civilisation still struggles on in Britain.

And given how much Nell McCafferty's defamatory statement about Mary Harney cost Newstalk, it was a very wise decision to cut her short.

The OP's attacks on Tubridy continue apace and the world keeps turning.

That article doesn't know what it wants to say really other then having a pop at Tubridy. This line is particular irked me:
she had, or was about to, tenderly, expose him for what he is, a showman without substance -- no, that's unfair -- with the wrong kind of substance for a show like this.

I hate nothing more then people who don't have the conviction to stand over their words. He has a pop and then retracts it without really reversing the damage implied.

    I really enjoyed it :)

Particularly enjoyed Dickie Rock singing To Whom it May Concern.
In fact if anyone could capture that version and stick it up on YouTube I'd be most grateful :o

Ah aidric do your remember a post you made on the late late 50th thread accusing jonathan again having multiple accounts, saying that he is me,2nd or 3rd time now you have been warned about it already.

So Mr RTE for the final time im me jimmy and thats it..

At the end of the day tubridy is a failure on radio and tv simple as that the figures speak volumes

Was ok, predictable to be honest. Must say twink was a disgrace though. Dont know why she is allowed on these programs anymore. Seems like a lot of them were drunk too haha

jimmy/aidric - just cut it out yeah? Nobody wants to read your petty squabble. Just put each other on ignore. The next act of aggression will result in a ban.

There were some truly horrific guests on that show - Tiernan, Sinead O'Connor and the abominable Nell McCafferty - yet they all seemed to behave themselves moreorless. Actually I thought Gaybo was quite curt and nasty at times, and the Dustin the turkey comment about Twink was a bit much

Have to say I thought the daftest moment was when Gay Byrne spontaneously rushed into the audience with a drink for Nell McCafferty.

And what did Pat Kenny do?

Bounded straight after him to do the same.

    Talk about master and disciple...

I thought Jody Corcoran was small bit over the top... He seems to approach any article about Tubridy with a bit more vitriol than a completely objective journalist should.

What was most profound for me, was the difference in the show when Pat and Gay were co-habiting the stage, and when they left.... The contrast could not have been more defined.. WITH Pat and Gay contributing, the conversation was interesting, funny, and brimful of personality. WITHOUT Pat and Gay, the show was dull and formulaic...devoid of spontaneity and life... it was like black and white.

Rather than having Ryan going to all the trouble of having to print off cue cards, RTE should invest in some text-to-speech software to read out the questions. Because, unfortunately he does not bring anything else to the role.

i've always thought that the late Gerry Ryan
    based himself on Gaybo.

ryan pushed things further than gaybo but both,
despite their D4 leanings, always tried to take on and rankle
    the braindead establishment.

i quite enjoyed the 50th show btw.

I didn't read the attached article but my thoughts on the show are that it brought me back to the 80's, which is when I got to know the Late Late. it's been a shadow of it's former self for so long now. I thought there was a quality feel about it and you got to see different sides to some people. Tommy Tiernan's interview was great. I think it showed the clever guy behind the persona a bit more than I've ever seen with him.

Nell McCafferty came across as a pain in the hole to be honest. I expect she always was though and I was just too young to realise it. At the time i wasn't impressed with Tubbs cutting her short but, in fairness to him, she needed putting back in her box.

The Twink segment was strange. Pat Shortt was the only guest in that line up I wanted to see. Patrick Kielty is an unfunny muppet and I'm not sure why he was on. Twink really hijacked the interview though and ganging up on the ex was very much uncalled for. Not sure why she couldn't just let it go after all this time to be honest. Dustin's 'bike' remark reminded me of the chaos that used to happen on the Den all those years ago. A lot of Zig and Zag's stuff was unscripted and fairly close to the bone and, as a result, deeply uncomfortable and funny.

Imelda May came across as the guest of the night though. No ego at all whatsoever and just a very nice and ordinary, down to earth lady despite her huge success. More power to her.

I could have done without Saint Bono and his inane egotistical rambling. The guy is living in denial at this point. His band became **** 20 years ago and they should have broken up then.

All in all though it struck me as old-school RTE. Get in a bunch of names, liquour them up and put them in front of a camera. I think it was great television and there was something there for everybody which reminded me of the LLS of old. Nowadays it has tuned into one 2.5 hour boring ****fest. I think it highlighted the quality of Gaybo's presentation. Yes, he could be narky and self-important but he delivered. G. Ryan was the only one I remember doing a comparable job, though he only did that once so it's maybe not a fair comparision.

    Not true.

Pat Kenny was first to get up, and first to give his drink to Ms.McCafferty

Also, people were having a go at Gay Byrne in the original thread for holding Sinéad O'Connor's hand. She clearly asked him to hold her hand, he would have been very impolite and unsupportive not to have done so.

By the end of the show, I kinda felt sorry for Ryan. He deserved a medal for what he had to put up with. One things for sure, it certainly was memorable :D

I watched it back, and I must have missed half of it trying to post here, read other posts and stay hydrated.

I really enjoyed watching it again. In fact, I think RTE should cancel tonight's Movie and show another repeat of the LLS Special :)

Whack job Sinead. She really landed Gaybo in it when she revealed his pervy antics when he first met her. He was squirming in his chair, but for as long as I can remember he has always salivated over that mess.

Nell was bang out of order. Ryan shoulda smacked her, not cut her short.

Bono and his usaul waffle. Speaking, but saying **** all. He has been doing that for as long as I can recall.
