Can i ask a favour of someone more in that know than me.

I'm just wondering roughly how much I need to earn gross (in a standard paye set up with standard tax credits) to end up with 2000 a month net.

I'm only looking for an approx figure and would appreciate any help from people here.

    thanks.

I make it out as €27,937.50 gross per year for a single person with just the basic €1,650 PAYE tax credit to get €2,000 net per month.

    {€27,937.50 - ([€27,937.50*0.20]-€1,650)}/12 = €2,000 net per month

Of course there are generally plenty of other credits and allowances to be availed of.

There's also about €800 of Universal Social Charge - which allthedoyles certainly took into account, but which you're blithely ignoring.

You can download my Excel tax calculator (shown in my signature line or on my profile page as the forum moderators don't test or trust such calculators) to check this- there is a 'net to gross' tool on the 'Other tools' sheet of the calculator.

Assuming that you're single/no children, it computes a gross pay level of €28630 in 2012- pretty much as per allthedoyles value- for a net takehome of €24000 pa.

There's plenty of tax calculators out there that you can use for this calculation.

There are not 100% accurate but will give you an idea.
