Booking with Ryanair to Spain.

    Hey,
Here's my situation, I have a place booked in Spain for the 24th of July 'till the 3rd of August.
I can either fly to Alicante or Murcia, but prices for flights are well above 300 with Ryanair. I think this is a little excessive.

Would I be better of waiting and hoping they come down in price? Or will they only go up??

What, in your experience, is the best time to book Ryanair?

Thanks for your advice in advance

    Barry.

There is a very small chance they may go down if there are a lot of seats available on the particular flight but as seeing it's in the really high season to a popular destination I highly doubt the price will go down, and I can only see the prices going up from here.

I would agree. Those prices seem pretty normal for that time of the year.

try looking at alternative routes, use skyscanner.net. also think about flying from Belfast or Knock, the prices are far better than Dublin

Aer Lingus are actually around the same price, only 20 more.

try booking via a UK airport.I saved 70euro pp by travelling to Malaga via Birmingham. We didnt have any checked in luggage however. It could be worth a look? Hope you find something..

    why?
    are they a charity?
You should know there must be a reason that they make 100s of millions of profits and have billions of cash in the bank.

    Hats off to them.
They manage to charge such high prices at peak times YET the perception of them is nevertheless that they are some sort of benevolent organisation that is setup to provide an unlimited supply of 1 euro tax free flights

And when trains or busses cost more than a packet of chewing gum there is outrage as to why they cant be as cheap as ryanair.

Theres definitly a bit of exploitation of the peak season from the airline and ferry companies when families and other folks with fixed holidays must travel but its a simple supply and demand.

But you can still get cheap flights elsewhere or simply stay in Ireland and support your local hospitality industry.
A seaside holiday home for a week would cost half of the flights to get to spain*, and you have accomodation and local transport on top of that.
I am heading for a week by the seaside in Sligo with the kids in August at the height of holiday season and its costing a bargain 600 euro for a 4 bed house for the week.

EDIT: * if theres a family of 4 travelling thats 1200 for flights to Spain now that kids are charged full price > 2year old.

Well thanks folks, for all the advice and that. Some really friendly people on Boards :)

I have booked with Ryanair today, their price went down. 285 including a bag and all the extras. Not bad considering that it's peak season. I am happy I waited now.

And really? Sligo is nice and all but sometimes you just want a bit of sun, some cheap drink and a change of scenery. I am not complaining about Ryanair in the slightest, they are an incredible company and I am proud they are Irish and am glad to use and support them. If not for them many a holiday outside of Ireland would simply not be possible.

I paid 450 for my 10 days in Spain, including flights. I am lucky to be traveling with 3 friends so the cost of the villa was divided.

which for a family of 2 adults 2 kids would be 1800 euro !

I might have been a wee bit abrupt with my last post, but I still think its valid.
People need to understand that Ryanair is not a charity and they do make their money in the summer.
And Irish peoples concept of flight prices is warped to consider Ryanair and aer lingus off peak offers as the norm and express surprise that almost sold out flights in summer or for big events arent a euro each way.

Both preconceptions would make you think 280 return is dear, but it is actually about what would be a normal short haul fare with say Lufthansa, Swiss or SAS often is, rising to 400+ if theres a bit of demand for a flight !

Or more. BEFORE Germany was drawn in the Ukraine for the Euros, Lufthansa flights to Lviv from Munich were already something approaching a 1000 euro return for economy class!

That's an awful lot and I know it's not in the range of most families, especially these days. Thankfully I am young, have saved hard and can affod this myself.
I realize that when I do have a family holidaying at home is the way forward, but I may aswell enjoy it while I can.

I agree, 285 is a reasonable price. In the end Ryanair is a business, there to make money. My original question was just meant to see should I hold out and maybe save 50 euro or go for it at that.

Only the very naive would think that any airline can afford to offer their services for such a low price, especially during peak times. Even at their most expensive Ryanair are still extremely competitive. I think we are in agreement.
